The painting centers on the mother of the Universe, the Goddess Parvati, consort of the Destroyer Shiva. While she equals her consort in valour and skills, the Goddess is also the embodiment of a mother’s fiercely protective and unconditional love for her child. It is this aspect that is depicted in this rendition of the original bronze sculpture dating back to the glorious Chola period. The Artists perception: The universal appeal of this artwork is based on aesthetic discernment and religious or spiritual fervour. According to Benjamin Rowland: The figure bronzes of India symbolize Indian ideals, absolute rather than human beauty and geometric purity and simplicity of lines. It is the perfection of pure mathematical formulas and the chaste dignity of a geometric design. The perfection of the divine form is brought out by the artist through skilful use of 3 tones- brown, yellow and white to impart a life like metal sheen to the canvas.
