Painting with watercolor, acrylics and pastels is my key to my secret garden, to my way down the rabbit hole, to my very own looking glass.
Watercolor is a very fresh, intuitive process that involves layering water-based paint on paper. I start with the lightest washes and build successively darker with each wash, leaving the white paper showing through for the brightest highlights. Acrylics let me work on a canvas and provides a different perspective entirely. This medium brings about a richness in any subject matter. Pastels make the world a softer place to be, Monet had seen that, and done that. It is the essence of the piece or place, not the substance.
Every one in a while, I have an inspired moment where I create exactly the effect I wanted - or even more exciting - I produce something that veers from my original idea and exceeds my expectations.
