What Name It Bears … This graphite pencil drawing ‘Neo Deco – 26-01-23’ counterparts my previous one ‘ Roundism – 20-01-23 ’. The reference picture is from the same model session I held in my studio but from a different angle. It totally differs stylewise though. One roundism at a time is enough, I thought. That is, because I have the feeling my search for something new keeps me wandering to and fro. Here I put it at your feet. There is roundism, neco deco and in the summer I made a series called ‘art deco’. Consequently I feel I have sunken into some kind of artistic name nitpicking swamp. On the other hand I clearly see the connection between all varieties, no matter what name it bears. Social Media Sentinels Makes me remember how this came to be. Long time ago I stopped attributing my drawings the n-word. The reasons was that social media sentinels kept on tracking me down and blocking me. How about that censorship and here we are folks, we live in dark ages nowadays! Not even in the middle ages because nudity and nipples were acceptable back then. What, did I say nudity? Well, I will be blocked by youtube for sure because of these lines. A good reason put these phrases in the second paragraph of this art statement. Therefor I can copy & paste the first one only into certain social media and the full version into the ones that don’t mind. This is how deep we have sunk as mankind. Thank God for labradors, golden retrievers, cats, buddhas and other safe motifs for the weak of heart. Heavily Abstracted Now we got this out of the way, the result was I wanted to create a heavily abstracted nude. The last one was blocked by youtube because, in spit of the roundistic styling, the nude obviously was deteced. Would be jolly good fun if algorithms were not capable to track this one. I’m sure human kind would spot the nude right away. As to my artistic approach, I decided to slighty refer to older work such as ‘ Roundism – 07-04-18 ’. Graphite pencil (Faber Castell Pitt Graphite Matt pencil 14B) drawing Talens Bristol paper (21 x 29.7 x 0.1 cm) Artist: Corné AkkersMy work can be seen in many countries all over the world. I employ a variety of styles that all have one thing in common: the ever search for the light on phenomena and all the shadows and light planes they block in. My favorites in doing so are oil paint, dry pastel and graphite pencil. It is not the form or the theme that counts but the way planes of certain tonal quality vary and block in the lights. Colours are relatively unimportant and can take on whatever scheme. It is the tonal quality that is ever present in my work, creating the illusion of depth and mass on a flat 2d-plane. I combine figurative work with the search for abstraction because neither in extremo can provide the desired art statement the public expects from an artist. Besides all that, exaggeration and deviation is the standard and results in a typical use of a strong colour scheme and a hugh tonal bandwith, in order to create art that, when the canvas or paper would be torn into pieces, in essence still would be recognizable.
I teach art (drawing / painting) at Voorburg, Netherlands where I have my second studio next to my first at The Hague, Netherlands, where I live.
