Sea swimming – 30-07-20 One of those days. Sold something around midnight, did my regular things like website maintenance, teaching, eating and returning to my work in progress. Bullocks! Forgot my rucksack at the shopping mall. Back again, nowhere to be found. Lost: my mind, a drawing WIP and my camera. There you have it. Second half with your soul under your arm. Then again, my rucksack could be upgraded and so my camera. 15 minutes later and € 1.500 poorer I had to start anew and I had such a great graphite pencil drawing progressing. Having uncorked a bottle of wine and opening up a can of sugar coated peanuts I turn to a succesful recipy: accentuate the positive and start a new drawing. Something quick to rub off the forlorn and perhaps such times evoke new ways to wander. I bought black paper in the past and now was the time to do a pastel. I remembered I found a swimming East German (!) nude from the late 1950s. A kind of Körperkultur reminiscent. Since these times were communist and communists tend to be social I am convinced they won’t file a law suit because of copyright infringement. Anyway, life in one day. Something for the better, something for the worse. By the way, how was your day? Pastel drawing on Clairfontaine Noir paper (21 x 29.7 x 0.1 cm) Artist: Corné AkkersMy work can be seen in many countries all over the world. I employ a variety of styles that all have one thing in common: the ever search for the light on phenomena and all the shadows and light planes they block in. My favorites in doing so are oil paint, dry pastel and graphite pencil. It is not the form or the theme that counts but the way planes of certain tonal quality vary and block in the lights. Colours are relatively unimportant and can take on whatever scheme. It is the tonal quality that is ever present in my work, creating the illusion of depth and mass on a flat 2d-plane. I combine figurative work with the search for abstraction because neither in extremo can provide the desired art statement the public expects from an artist. Besides all that, exaggeration and deviation is the standard and results in a typical use of a strong colour scheme and a hugh tonal bandwith, in order to create art that, when the canvas or paper would be torn into pieces, in essence still would be recognizable.
I teach art (drawing / painting) at Voorburg, Netherlands where I have my second studio next to my first at The Hague, Netherlands, where I live.
