The pregnant mermaid signifies how Enki was responsible for the creation of man through genetic science. Enki is also considered to be "the one who imparts the knowledge of civilizations to mankind, hence represented by the pearls of wisdom. The octopus shows the extensive reach of his powers. The crab is the sign of quarrel about to erupt between Enki and the thieving mermaid. The mermaid (Venus) is stealing the pearls and Neptune (Enki) is not pleased.
