Old Souls Waiting is a large semi abstract oil painting of a mythical semi-abstract landscape with 3 deer and a stag (40x40x1.5 inches). The deer stand at the centre of the painting and there is a hint of a waterfall below them and trees and mountains above and around them. The deer are small and well defined though slightly nebulous at the same time. I often use this same little posse of deer in my paintings as they seem perfect together. The painting began with a simple desire to use the colours in it which include magenta, rose, purple, lilac, pale blue, white and golden yellow. The painting worked well as an abstract landscape but I feel it is better with the little deer adding some focus to it. Most of my paintings have a story or memory attached. This one is about the spiritual nature of deer and the idea that maybe they can move between worlds and can act as guides. This idea is common to many cultures and I like it. This painting is on 3D, deep edge canvas, edges white, ready to hang, frame not needed. Comes with certificate of authenticity. VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0He-OBudwUI am a professional artist based in Sussex and I paint large original landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas.
My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Deco, a little Art Nouveau and whatever mood I am in that day.
I am inspired by the patterns of nature and the energy, colours and spaces of the landscapes and animals around me.
I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.
All of my paintings have a story added in to them - sometimes humorous, sometimes mystical, sometimes with a message of hope or encouragement.
My aim is to make art that offers a glimpse of spaces and possibilities where people can escape the manic pace of life and imagine themselves somewhere better – even if just for a little while.
