The understated palette of “Rabbit” with its soft greens and greys is an introspection into female friendship. Caught at their leisure, the two women share a quiet moment as the sun begins to set over the muted cityscape. I often feature animals in my works – I enjoy their serenity and dignity, but also their aloofness; the relationship that develops between them and the other characters in the paintings. An animal lover myself, I am a proud owner of two lively dogs and a cockatiel parrot, who sometimes also appear in my works. This painting is made on heavy-duty natural canvas with three layers of primer to achieve a perfect painting surface. A lot of work with goes into a subtle paintings such as this one – through a long process of trying and mixing colours I eventually arrive at this delicate palette.
