Peyo explains that in his work "the erasure of language in art, rather than destructive, has the potential to lead to ambiguous readings between the original text and the work." Through the erasure chides and confronts his fate, he reflects on the ephemeral and transcendental life, pain, distress, disease and death. His vision of the world is of grievance about a sick society. As his work is linked to the word, the artist is inspired by protest poems of affirmation about cultural and political na- tionalism from Mutabaruka (Dis poem), Miguel Pinero (Seekin' The Cause) and Allen Ginsberg (Howl), among others. The discourse at Erasures is reac- tionary, anti-imperialist, anti-military, anti-racism, and against discrimination, poverty, neoliberalism and vi- olence. Peyo is a provocative artist of conscience and the viewer, in view of his work, will react conflicted or identified before the erasure of the word and the stain that has been embodied in great, evocative and courageous way.Additional Products
