Micheal Eaken

My name is Micheal Eaken. I have been painting with oils since my junior year of high school (1978). My art teacher told me to pick a medium that I liked, and I chose oils! I have also always painted from photos. I can paint anything as long as I can "see" it. I still work a full time job, so art is only part time right now, but  I hope to take it full time soon! I do a lot of commission work from photos sent to me by people who want a painting to hang on their walls of a specific memory.

This was painted from an original photo by James Swoboda and used by permission. It is framed in a beautiful plein air frame in mahogany! I knew that I had to paint this when I saw it. I love the colors. How the blues in the sky and the greens in the waves surround the red lighthouse, and the black and grays of the dock accent them. The mahogany frame looks awesome around it all. This looks like an ocean scene, but it is Lake Michigan on a stormy, windy day.
