In addition to being a rabbi and professor, Aryeh Cohen is also a social justice activist and lecturer. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Jewish Thought from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. A Ph.D. in religious studies is held by the Rabbi, who was ordained at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at Brandeis University.

Currently, Rabbi Aryeh Cohen serves as the Rabbi in Residence at Bend the Arc: Jewish Action. In addition to serving as the Rabbi in Residence at Bend the Arc, Aryeh participates in interfaith coalitions to advance domestic issues, with a particular focus on undocumented residents and asylum seekers. Since 2012, Aryeh has taken direct action to pass the sanctuary law (SB54) in California. Because of the sanctuary law, Los Angeles is no longer associated with immigration enforcement.
Rabbi Cohen demonstrated a particular interest in economic justice, criminal justice reform, and Jewish social justice theory and practice during his tenure as chair of the Progressive Jewish Alliance (precursor to Bend the Arc). The organization on whose board of directors he currently serves is Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice.
