Growing up next to the Pittsburgh steel mills, they were basically tombs of rust and corrosion that as kids, we explored on Sundays when most of the mills were closed. Thus the name of the artwork. This piece was created with those memories in mind. It was interesting to note that everything in the mill rusted in a different way. Some of the corrosion was brilliantly colored. The challenge of this painting was visually turning canvas and aluminum into rusted and corroding metal.
