This yam is a staple diet for many Aboriginal people. Similar to the common “Sweet Potato” the tubers are often found up to 30cm in diameter. They are sweet tasting and very juicy, containing considerable amounts of moisture. The vine grows to around a meter high then extends itself by runners. It has smooth leathery green leaves and pink and red flowers that appear in summer after rain. It is found in drier inland areas usually in spinifex plains.
